  • About the property

If you’re looking for all the amenities of a town on your doorstep, plus a central location for enjoying days out in North Yorkshire, Lily's Cottage is a great choice. Set in the heart of picturesque Richmond there are many pubs, restaurants and shops within a couple of minutes’ walk, yet the cobbled lane on which it is located is relatively quiet. There isn’t any outdoor space, but with lovely places like Richmond Castle and Friary Gardens within walking distance, this needn't be a problem. Inside, the cottage is modern and stylish with a living room, a snug and a separate dining room
The cottage is situated on a quiet lane. Once inside the cottage, there is space to hang coats and kick off your shoes before heading into the sitting room or snug to relax.

The main sitting room is a great place for everyone to spend time together and features sofa and armchair seating, as well as a wood burner to warm up those chilly evenings. There’s also a 55 inch Sky Glass TV, plus access to Netflix (own account details are required). Views from this sitting room are of the lane. Meanwhile, the second sitting room also has a wood burner and is a great place for curling up with a book or catching up on work on your laptop.

In the well-equipped kitchen, there is everything you could need to cook for everyone or make packed lunches ready for a day out. There’s an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a Nespresso coffee machine, a cafetiere, a toaster, a kettle, a fridge/freeze and a wine cooler, as well as a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. Or, you can pick up a takeaway pizza or fish and chips to enjoy instead. Meals can be enjoyed together in the separate dining room around the large table which has seating for six people.

There are three bedrooms in total. Two of these are on the ground floor: one bedroom has two small single beds (each 2’ 6”' wide, so are most suited to children) and one has a double bed. Meanwhile, on the lower ground floor (which has windows) is the master bedroom that features a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room.

There is also a family bathroom on the ground floor with a bath with a shower over, a heated towel rail, a WC and a basin.

There isn’t any outdoor space at the property.

Local Info

The neighbourhood

The cottage is located in the market town of Richmond in North Yorkshire which has an excellent choice of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars, as well as shops where you can pick up all your essentials and groceries – many are truly just a short walk away from the cottage. Do take time to visit The Station, a Victorian railway station turned leisure venue, complete with artisan shops, a restaurant and an ice-cream parlour, as well as a cinema and an art gallery. It’s a great place to while away a few hours.

Richmond is a charming town that is full of history and character. Just around the corner from the cottage is Richmond Castle, managed by English Heritage, while The Georgian Theatre is lovely and booking a show could easily become a highlight of your stay.

Richmond is also a great base for hikers with several lovely walks beginning from the town. Take the short walk to Richmond Falls from where you can explore further afield or take the very pleasant walk beside the River Swale to Easby Abbey. Meanwhile, the town is a gateway to the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park where you can enjoy longer hikes, as well as many more outdoor pursuits.

There are lots of interesting villages to visit. Hawes with its stunning scenery is home to the Wensleydale Creamery of Wallace and Gromit fame. In Leyburn, you can walk the Shawl, allegedly where Mary Queen of Scots who was imprisoned at nearby Castle Bolton walked and lost her shawl in the wind. Meanwhile, Middleham is famous for being the birthplace of Richard III and home of horse racing, once a year the stables open to the public to see the magic behind the sport of kings.

If you prefer retail therapy the head to the spa town of Harrogate or the walled city of York, both have so much to see and do that one visit will never be enough.

Getting around

Lily's Cottage can be easily accessed by road, the main road links are the A1 and A66, and there is mainline access on the train into the neighbouring town of Darlington. If you are coming from either end of the country, there is also Teeside Airport.

Once you arrive, if you wish to relax and let someone else do the driving there is an excellent local bus service which can take you all over the Dales. The Dales Bus network will take you to places including Ribblehead, Hawes and Bentham.

If you are planning to arrive by car, please note that there is not any private parking, but there are disc zone parking bays outside the cottage and in the market square close by. A car pass is provided for you.
