Bluebell Cottage is a beautiful barn conversion set in a rural part of Cheshire where you’ll have a swimming pool and tennis courts all to yourself, and delightful woodland walks from your door.

Bluebell Cottage is ideal for a couple with one or two children and offers the opportunity to feel secluded in rural surroundings, without being remote. For enjoying the fresh air and making the most of outdoor living, it’s a fantastic choice. The outside space here really has the wow factor and on warm days the private swimming pool and tennis court provide hours of fun. Even in less favourable weather, you can enjoy morning coffee or evening drinks outside in the sheltered outdoor living area. You might never wish, or need, to leave the barn, but the Peak District is just a short drive away and is perfect for exploring nature, taking long walks and visiting stately homes.

Why we love this

  • Ideal for a small family group who like the outdoor lifestyle
  • A short drive to the Peak District National Park
  • Outdoor entertaining area, private swimming pool and tennis court

Bluebell Cottage is a detached property set out over two floors and every inch of space has been made good use of. Original features include wooden ceilings beams, while bi-fold doors, skylights and a glass-panelled landing give a contemporary feel. Light and airy throughout, the barn is understatedly elegant and very homely.

Downstairs, the open-plan living room comprises the kitchen, dining and lounge areas. There’s a sofa and armchairs from where you can watch TV (which has Internet connection) or gaze outside at views of the swimming pool. Meanwhile, the modern kitchen features everything you will need to prepare family feasts including oven and hob, fridge, freezer and microwave, as well as luxurious extras including a boiling water tap.

You can dine at either the breakfast bar or the dining table that has seating for four, or open up the large bi-fold doors to extend your living area and eat al fresco on the patio.

There’s also a downstairs bathroom which has a shower, WC and sink (no bath), making that outdoor lifestyle all the more convenient. You can come and go as you please from the pool to the shower to freshen up, to the lounge to chill, then back outside for lunch.

Upstairs takes you up to the mezzanine and main bedroom which features a king-size bed dressed with soft linens by The White Company and Orla Kiely, storage space, a TV and a Juliet balcony that opens up to distant views of the Peak District. The second sleeping area is on the mezzanine landing and isn’t a separate room, but the 4ft wide sofa can be converted into a bed that’s perfectly comfortable.

Also upstairs is the second bathroom, which like the downstairs bathroom has a shower, WC and sink (there isn’t a bath at the property) and is ‘Jack and Jill’ style with two doors – one off the landing and one off the main bedroom.

Bluebell Cottage’s outdoor space is a real show-stopper. Enclosed and private, you can truly relax here. Along with the dining and lounge area, parts of which are covered by an electric retracting canopy, as well as the stunning heated swimming pool, (The pool opens from the 1st of May until the 30th September weather permitting). There is a barbecue, patio heaters and a range of chairs and loungers so that you can make yourself comfortable. If you enjoy tennis, there is access to a hard surface court which you will have exclusive use of. By arrangement with the owners you can access their extensive gardens, including herbaceous borders, an orchard and a kitchen garden, which are a delight to roam around on a summer's day. There's also a 13 acre private woodland to walk in and enjoy.

The owners of the cottage live in a property within the grounds and will greet you on arrival to hand you the keys and show you around.

The swimming pool features a retractable solar cover that helps to generate and retain heat to maintain a pleasant water temperature. If you'd like to offset the carbon emissions from your trip get in touch and we can arrange this for a small fee.

Location

The neighbourhood

For stocking up on groceries there’s an M&S Foodhall about a 10-minute drive away, whilst Waitrose is 15 minutes. There’s also a country pub about a 30-minute walk from Bluebell Cottage, where you can enjoy a great lunch or dinner. If you’re in the mood for a longer walk there’s a seven-mile circular trail from the pub to a beauty spot called The Cloud. The walk passes through gorgeous countryside and over stiles, with a final climb to the top of The Cloud (about 300 metres) that will reward you with incredible panoramas over the Cheshire Plains and the Peak District.

An equally enthralling walk can be enjoyed at Tegg's Nose Country Park which was once a quarry and is steeped in industrial heritage. Or, head to Macclesfield Forest which is perfect for nature-lovers who will enjoy ambling along woodland paths and around the reservoirs, on the lookout for the resident red deer and water birds, including the herons at Trentabank reservoir.

If you’d like to venture further the popular villages of Alderley Edge and Knutsford are within a short drive and have some fanastic dining options. The delightful market town of Macclesfield is also nearby where you can visit the Silk Museum and Heritage Centre or Treacle Market (held on the last Sunday of every month) to buy everything from local produce to vintage clothing.
