The neighbourhood
The cottage is located in the village of Sleights in the
North York Moors National Park and is surrounded by fields and woodlands. The nearest pub is just a 5-minute walk away, while a 10-minute walk will take you to shops including a bakery, a butcher and a deli.
You’re perfectly placed for beautiful walks and bike rides through the North York Moors and the Esk Valley that begin from your doorstep. It’s the perfect way to discover the villages of the national park and sample the delights of gastro pubs along the way. You can even walk to the town of Whitby on the coast, famous for its abbey.
A day on the coast will reward you with everything from bracing walks along coastal paths and sandy beaches to fantastic fish and chips and even fossil-hunting.
There are plenty more ways to enjoy the great outdoors and rowing on the River Esk, golf, horse riding and fishing are all available locally.
Further afield, head to the market towns of Malton, Helmsley or Pickering and board a steam train for a leisurely ride through the countryside. Or visit the historic city of York with its ancient minster and city walls, under an hour’s drive away.
There’s a delightful waterfall walk at Littlebeck up to Falling Foss in Sneaton Forest, while for stately homes, Castle Howard is pure joy.
If all the sightseeing leaves you feeling in need of some pampering, book into Raithwaite Hall and Country House Hotel in Sandsend for some spa treatments and a slap-up meal.
