Sustainable Travel

Our commitment to sustainable travel and the environment

Sustainable travel is a key focus for the team at Luxury Cottages and a major consideration for many of our property owners and guests. As a result, we work hard to minimise the carbon footprint of our properties and guest travel. Below are a series of initiatives we are spearheading to improve the sustainability of our business.

B-Corp

We're B Corp Certified

We officially became a certified B Corporation (or B Corp) in September 2023, joining a growing group of over 1,500 companies in the UK that pursue purpose as well as profit.

Our B Corp journey started in 2022 and we have worked hard to achieve our verified score of 85.0 which we intend to improve on through a continuous commitment to building a better business.

We’re on a mission to provide guests with the best possible experience when holidaying in the UK and to make a positive impact on communities and the environment.

As a modern and progressive company, we’re striving to do the best for all our stakeholders and that includes our suppliers and employees as well as our shareholders.

Beds and Mattresses

We’re proud to partner with Hypnos who are at the forefront of sustainability in bed-making. Not only are they a carbon neutral company but they also use naturally and ethically sourced materials. You won’t find any foam or unsustainable fabrics in any of their products.

Hypnos use the finest quality British Wool certified by Red Tractor. The company has a proud tradition of sustainability being certified carbon neutral since 2011 and offsetting more than 5,905 tonnes of CO2 and planting over 600 trees in the meantime.

The wood used in all divan bases is either FSC or PEFC certified timber from forests managed in a responsible manner. All beds are 100% recyclable and Hypnos have developed a disposal and recycling service for old beds and mattresses.

Carbon Reduction

Cars account for up to 20% of global carbon emissions and on average account for 20-30% of a typical household’s footprint and significant proportion of the carbon footprint of most businesses. We’re mindful of the impact of this on the environment so work with a number of initiatives in order to reduce the carbon footprint of our business.

We’re committed to being a positive force for change and offset the carbon footprint of our business travel through Ecologi. We also now plant a tree for every booking to help offset the carbon emissions from our guests.

Reducing Guest Travel Emissions

Taking a long haul flight generates more carbon emissions than the average person produces in an entire year and whilst domestic travel is far more eco-friendly, it still has an impact on the environment.

With that in mind we incentivise guests to use electric vehicles or to travel by train in order to reduce their carbon footprint. Please contact Guest Services if you would like more information.
