The Best Places to Visit in the Scottish Highlands

Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park is a gateway to the Scottish Highlands and one of the most popular places to visit in Scotland. Discover lochside towns and villages, idyllic walks and a host of water sports. Scenic boat cruises, kayaking and windsurfing are all popular ways to explore.

For some of the most spectacular and dramatic scenery, head to the Glencoe area which is hallmarked by deep valleys and towering munros. It’s a fantastic place to reconnect with nature, climb up peaks for incredible views and enjoy gentle strolls in the fresh mountain air. If you love seeking out film locations, you will be interested to know that scenes of movies including several of the Harry Potter series and Braveheart have been filmed here.

No trip to the Highlands would really be complete without a trip to Loch Ness for a boat trip to take in the atmospheric Urquhart Castle and to keep an eye out for ‘Nessie’, of course.

While much of the Scottish Highlands is blessed with stunning landscapes and is rich in wildlife, one of the best places for both is the Cairngorms National Park. Here, it is possible to spot Ospreys, Capercaillies, Golden Eagles, Red Squirrels, Pine Martens and Red Deer.
