Why we love this

  • Stunning period property with a sociable living space
  • A private courtyard, hot tub and games room
  • Perfect for a mid-week break in the countryside

Paving the way is a grand, gravelled path, swathed by perfectly preened greenery. Open the ornate front door and step inside the entrance hall, beautifully lit up by stained-glass windows. Into the grandiose main hallway with its stunning columns, you will get a real feel for the size of this property, which can comfortably accommodate large groups of up to 10 people.

The house has plenty of space to entertain including a breakfast room and a separate large dining room complete with a long banquet table and a log burner. Perfect for formal meals, family get-togethers or conferences.

The large country kitchen is well stocked with appliances including an American fridge-freezer, Nespresso machine, microwave and Rangemaster oven, as well as two dishwashers for your convenience. There is a separate laundry room with a washer and dryer and you even have a boot room downstairs with a fridge and dog shower to keep the mucky paws at bay.

The large drawing room offers a relaxing and comfortable space, complete with several plush sofas, a log-burning stove and a piano for budding musicians or experts alike. The separate living room includes a Smart TV, DVD player and plenty of books to keep the little ones entertained. A host of family board games are also provided.

There is plenty of private space for extended family holidays and corporate overnight stays. The main winding staircase takes you up to a landing complete with original stained glass roof light. Off the landing, there are five double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom has a large en-suite bathroom, complete with a shower and an extra-large bath.

Downstairs there is a games room with a full-sized pool table and Smart TV to keep the whole group entertained.

Outside there is a private area with a hot tub, an ornate BBQ and ample seating so you can dine al fresco. The lawned gardens are beautiful to explore and include a pergola with seating and deck chairs. There is also an outdoor play area with a tree house, swings, slides and a climbing frame which is great for keeping the little ones entertained.

The housekeeper will greet you on arrival and show you into the property.

The neighbourhood

Somerset House is situated in a pretty village near to Frome. Within a 5-minute walk, there is a highly rated gastropub as well as stunning country walks. Nearby you are within a 10-minute drive of Soho House group's Babington House and a short drive away from Glastonbury where you can browse the boutique shops and dine in the many restaurants and café.

When the bright lights of the city beckon, choose from Bristol or Bath. The city of Bristol offers a great day out and we recommend taking a boat trip around the historic harbour, or climbing aboard the SS Brunel, Britain’s world's first great ocean liner. Do also check out the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery to marvel at the outstanding collections of art, archaeology, geology and natural history.
