The neighbourhood
With North Devon being a relatively undiscovered food heaven, there are many pubs and eateries in the area, including the Michelin-starred Masons Arms (advance booking is required) or the wine pub of the year, Woods. You must also try the local gins and ciders throughout your stay too.
Exmoor itself is a little-known national park, which means it is rarely crowded, even in the summer. It offers a huge variety of landscapes and sights, from picturesque villages, rugged coastlines and moors to stately castles and fossil-filled beaches.
Nearby is the pretty town of Dulverton which is known as the 'gateway to Exmoor'. Here, you can enjoy browsing the independent shops and indulging in delicious delights at the many tea rooms, restaurants and pubs. Exmoor Distillery is also located here and offers distillery tours and tasting sessions.
The cathedral city of Exeter is only a 50-minute drive away and well worth a visit. There is a wide range of activities to enjoy including family-friendly museums, a trip to the Medieval Underground Passages and a browse around the shops.
If you fancy heading to the coast, Saunton Sands and Croyde are ideal for a spot of surfing, swimming or a scenic stroll. Both beaches are around an hour away by car.
