    Heron Cottage is one of five completely renovated cottages that are set within a 64-acre Grade II* early Georgian country house estate. Enjoying a rural setting within a sleepy hamlet in Shropshire and with 64 acres of private grounds including a seven acre lake to explore, this is an idyllic country escape. Back at the cottage, there’s a delightful enclosed garden, complete with a firepit, BBQ and hot tub where you can relax in peace.

  • The space

    There are three bedrooms at the cottage. The first features a king-size bed, the second has a double bed and the third is a single bedroom. There is one bathroom with roll top bath that you can enjoy a good soak after a day out walking in the countryside along with separate shower.

    The living area is a lovely place to kick back and relax, complete with a Smart TV and a log burner to add an extra layer of cosiness to winter nights.

    The kitchen has everything you could need to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner here with ease. There’s an electric oven and hob, a fridge/freezer, a Nespresso coffee machine, a microwave, kettle, toaster and dishwasher, as well as a washing machine and dryer, while the dining table will seat you all comfortably.

    Outdoors there is an enclosed garden with a seating area and a gas BBQ. In a separate building within the garden, you’ll find a hot tub where you can relax and warm up.

  • Guest access

    Guests will be met on arrival and there is an allocated parking area. Once settled in, you can enjoy walks in the estate’s grounds and around the lake.

  • Sustainability

    If you'd like to offset the carbon emissions from your trip get in touch and we can arrange this for a small fee.

  • Keep in mind

    Check-in: from 15:00
    Check-out: by 10:00 (or a late check-out on Sunday for guests arriving on a Friday)

    Deposit: Bookings are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking value plus applicable booking fees with the balance payable 60 days before the date of travel.

    Accidental Damage Deposit: To maintain the highest standards in our properties, guests will need to pay a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 prior to their stay. An advance payment as detailed in the booking summary can be made to waive the requirement.

    Book with confidence: If your booking is affected by new Government travel restrictions which were not known at the time of booking, and you're legally unable to travel, we will arrange with the property owner to refund 100% of your holiday cost.

The neighbourhood

The cottage is located in a small hamlet in a scenic part of Shropshire and is about 9.5 miles away from the traditional town of Market Drayton. Here, you can visit the Wednesday market, join a guided tour of Joules Brewery to sample beer made with local spring water or buy some freshly made gingerbread for which the town is famous. Meanwhile, the stunning scenery can be enjoyed on a walk along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal, or a gentle bike ride on the John O’Groats to Land’s End cycle route that runs through the town.

A little further away is the riverside town of Shrewsbury that is brilliant for shopping with large stores sitting next to independent shops, and a big indoor market that sells a great range of handmade goods and artisan foods. Shrewsbury also brims with historic buildings including Shrewsbury Castle, while the contemporary Theatre Severn is a great place to catch a show before drinks in a cosy pub.

The area around the cottage is rich in outstanding gardens and heritage sites. About 5 minutes away there’s Hodnet Hall Gardens that features over 60 acres of grounds including ornamental pools; Wollerton Old Hall Garden which exudes glorious English country style; and Hawkstone Park and Follies where you can explore sandstone caves, towers and bridges.

If you fancy visiting a city, Chester is about an hour’s drive away and promises a mix of historic treasures including a Roman amphitheatre and the famous city walls. There’s also a beautiful cathedral, a historic racecourse and riverside restaurants to discover, making it a great day trip.

Getting around

Due to the rural location, a car is essential for getting around. The cottage is accessible from the M6 (22 miles away) and M54 (13 miles away).
