  • About the property

A fantastic option for a family get-together, birthday celebration or special occasion, this spacious manor house has everything you could need for a relaxing stay in Dorset. You’ll have an acre of landscaped gardens with a private swimming pool, a hot tub and a tennis court all to yourselves, while the games room offers plenty of indoor fun. Set within 30 acres with a section that is still a vineyard, the house is part of a small collection of luxury holiday cottages yet is secluded. Woodland walks begin from your door, while the Georgian market town of Blandford Forum is a short drive away and the location is superb for exploring the Jurassic Coast.

  • The space

Decor is a classic and elegant country style throughout, while rooms are well proportioned and offer plenty of space for a group to spread out. Period details including fireplaces are mixed with opulent touches like chandeliers to create a homely and luxurious feel.

On the ground floor there is a large, welcoming entrance hall and a traditional layout with separate living and entertaining spaces. There are two lounges, the first with a Freeview TV, DVD player and CD player, while the second also has a Freeview TV as well as a cosy wood burner.

Both lounges lead to the light-filled conservatory which has lounge chairs and a dining area. It’s the ideal place for reading a morning paper with a coffee or sipping evening drinks, all while admiring views of your garden.

The large dining room is the best place for formal meals all together and French doors that open onto the garden give the feeling of bringing the outdoors in.

The separate country-style kitchen has a smaller dining table that’s perfect for breakfast or feeding the children. Fully equipped with an electric double range oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and a dishwasher, there’s everything you could need to self-cater.
In addition, there’s the convenience of a utility area with a freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, plus there’s a boot room with space for a dog bed and there’s also a ground-floor WC.

When it comes to family fun, the large games room is the place to enjoy a friendly game of pool, table football or air hockey.

Up on the first floor are eight bedrooms. The master suite has a king-size bed with a rolltop bath in the room and an en-suite with a shower cubicle and WC. It's perfect for a family with young children as it interconnects with the bedroom next door which has twin beds and en-suite with shower over bath and WC. However, the door can be locked.

There are three more king-size bedrooms, one with an en-suite with a shower over the bath and a WC, plus three more twin bedrooms.

    All bedrooms have Freeview TV.

Two more bathrooms, each with a shower over a bath and a WC, complete the accommodation upstairs.

Outside, there is a large private garden with a patio, garden furniture and a gas BBQ where you can easily spend leisurely days. However, the wow factor is the swimming pool (5m x 4m) that’s a great place to cool off and hang out on a summer’s day (open from March to October), and it’s a big hit with kids. Grown-ups can relax in the six-seat hot tub with a chilled drink to hand, but anyone feeling energetic can enjoy tennis on the private court or croquet on the lawn.

There is also private parking for up to 10 cars.

The neighbourhood

The property enjoys a quiet, rural location on a private estate surrounded by woodland with walking trails. There are plenty of country walks to enjoy locally and pubs and restaurants just a 5-minute drive away.

For a change of scene, the small Georgian town of Blandford Forum, set on the banks of the River Stour, is only about 2 miles away. Here you will find a range of independent shops and boutiques, cafes, restaurants and pubs, as well as a variety of outdoor markets held throughout the month. The town is also home to the Hall and Woodhouse Brewery and shop where you can buy local ale to enjoy back at the property.

If you’re a keen golfer, the Ashley Wood 18-hole golf course is accessible along a bridle way from within the grounds and takes about 10 minutes to walk or 2 minutes to drive. Cyclists can take to the North Dorset Trailway and more exhilarating pursuits can be found at Gorcombe Extreme Sports, which has an assault course and offers archery, go karting and paintball.

Great days out within driving distance include the towns of Shaftesbury, famous for its incredible view from Gold Hill, and Wimborne where attractions include the Minster Church and the Model Town which is a scale model of how the town looked in the 1950s. Meanwhile, National Trust sites within easy reach include Kingston Lacy House, Hod Hill, Hardy’s Cottage and the Cerne Abbas Giant.

For beautiful beaches, including the famous Sandbanks Beach, head to the town of Poole, while the beaches at Bournemouth and Weymouth are also very popular.

Slightly further afield you can visit the picturesque Isle of Purbeck which incorporates some of the Jurassic Coast’s most spectacular scenery including Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Or take a ride on the Swanage Steam Railway, with its 6 miles of track that traverses through pretty Dorset countryside.

If you have children in tow, family-friendly attractions within easy reach include Monkey World, the Bovington Tank Museum and the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy House.
