The Best Things to Do in Bowness-on-Windermere

When she died in 1943, she left 14 farms and 4,000 acres of land to the National Trust, including Hill Top Farm which inspired many of her books. A visit to the World of Beatrix Potter is something all generations will enjoy. See the beloved author’s 23 tales come to life in the museum and gardens before enjoying a cream tea at the cafe.

Outdoorsy types have a wide range of water sports on offer on Windermere Lake, including canoeing, kayaking and sailing trips from Bowness Pier. And from gentle rambles to uphill clambers, there are walking routes to suit all abilities in the area, each promising epic views of the Lake District.

Beyond Bowness, Windermere and Kendal are reachable on foot and Keswick is 45 minutes away by car.
