The Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that attracts holidaymakers in search of sweeping bays and breathtaking coastal views. Ty Hir has an ‘upside-down’ layout to maximise the sea views which you can gaze at for hours from the cosy open-plan living space with its private balcony. Just a few minutes’ walk away is Llanbedrog’s sheltered, sandy beach, much of which is managed by the National Trust. It’s popular with families, windsurfers, kayakers and sailors alike, plus there’s a beach bar and restaurant.

If you prefer dry land, the headland circular walk will reward you with particularly amazing sea views. Being on the Llŷn Peninsula there are many beautiful beaches nearby, including those of the popular coastal resort of Abersoch, just a few minutes away.

In the summer months Abersoch comes to life and there is a good selection of bistros and bars to socialise in. There is a range of water sports on offer too and the renowned RYA-affiliated Abersoch Sailing School offers tuition for various levels of ability.

Base yourself at Waters Dream in the pretty fishing village of Appledore in North Devon where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet. For a day at the seaside, head to Minehead Beach which is about 5 minutes away by car or 15 minutes on foot. It’s a wide, sandy stretch perfect for beach games and building sandcastles.

If you’d prefer to explore the delights of the national park, why not hike to the summit of Dunkery Beacon, the highest point on Exmoor where there are far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside and the dramatic coastline of the Bristol Channel.

Other good days out include the iconic water-powered cliff railway in Devon that connects the fishing village of Lynmouth and the Victorian village of Lynton perched 500 feet above.
