  • About the property

The cottage is an excellent choice for a luxury holiday in mid-Wales with friends or family. Set amidst the owners’ 35 acres of rolling pastureland, this architect designed and fully bespoke cottage has been built by local craftsmen, utilising the best of local materials, such as locally quarried stone, estate grown Cedar and re-claimed Welsh slates. Here, simple pleasures including sipping drinks in the bubbling hot tub, gazing into the stars in the dark night skies or cosying up beside the wood burner indoors are extra special thanks to the outstanding views of lush fields and rolling hills. A Michelin star chef is also available for fine dining within the comfort of your cottage, along with a holistic therapist for some well-deserved pampering. When you wish to venture beyond your beautiful lawned gardens, the charming Welsh town of Montgomery is just a couple of miles away, there are walks along Offa’s Dyke there for the taking and the Shropshire Hills are within easy reach too.

If you love the sound of this place but need more bedrooms, the cottage can be booked as a combination of two or a collection of three with Upper Tumble Cottage and Lower Tumble Cottage via our Guest Services team.

  • The space

The cottage is decorated in an elegant and simple style, with neutral shades and subtle pops of colour, that never detract from the showstopping countryside views. It’s flooded with natural light, feels spacious and instantly instils a sense of calm.

As you enter the cottage, there’s a utility room with a sink and washing machine which is a very convenient place to leave muddy boots and hang wet coats to dry after a day out exploring - the underfloor heating is a great bonus.

The heart of this home is the open-plan living space that combines the lounge, kitchen and dining areas. You’ll no doubt find yourself here a lot as the floor-to-ceiling glass bi-fold doors allow mesmerising panoramic vistas across the fields and hills. Open up the doors and you have the very best of indoor/outdoor living.

Indoors there’s underfloor heating throughout, a corner sofa, comfy armchair and a wood burner to warm up especially chilly evenings spent in front of the Smart TV.

The kitchen features a large central island and is equipped with everything you will require to whip up breakfast, lunch, picnics and dinner, an electric range cooker with double ovens and induction hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. The dining area offers beautiful views to the surrounding countryside and there is seating in the form of a very cosy island bench seat and a dining table and chairs.

There are two bedrooms with the master featuring a super-king-size bed, a Smart TV and double doors that open out to the hot tub. The second bedroom is a twin (that is a zip-and-link system that can be converted into a super-king-size on request); it also features a Smart TV and has the benefit of an en-suite shower room with a WC.

    There’s also a family bathroom with a roll-top bath and a WC.

Outside, there’s a large wraparound terrace with garden furniture which is the perfect spot to gather together and enjoy a soak in the hot tub, sip evening drinks or fire up the Komodo BBQ for an al fresco dinner. Beyond the terrace, there’s a lawned garden, with lots of room for children to play.

The neighbourhood

This luxurious cottage is situated on a working farm and is surrounded by the owners’ farmland. It is very peaceful and you are welcome to visit the hen field and collect fresh eggs for breakfast each morning. There are lots of lovely walks and wildflower meadows to discover on the estate. The ‘Perfect Mile’ walk circles the small village of Llandyssil where you can stroll through the Warlock Wildflower Meadow and pick up homemade preserves from the village church. For a luxurious experience, helicopter rides over the Welsh Mountains and Shropshire Hills are available throughout your stay.

This part of Wales has somewhat of an artisan vibe and the quaint town of Montgomery, known locally as ‘Monty’, just two miles away, will offer a real flavour of this. You can peruse a handful of independent shops or eat at one of the quirky cafes. Meanwhile, for fine dining, book a table at The Checkers which serves modern British cuisine and is under the stewardship of Andrew Birch, formerly Head Chef of the Savoy Grill, London.

Amongst Monty’s highlights are the 12th-century castle ruins and Town Hill County War Memorial, while a popular farmer’s market takes place every Thursday and is great for stocking up on fresh produce. The picturesque Lymore Estate is home to Montgomery cricket grounds and a wonderful destination for a refreshing walk.

If you enjoy long walks and cycling, the area is outstanding, with the Offa’s Dyke trail just a few minutes away and the expansive Shropshire Hills a short drive. Or head into Hafren Forest for a stroll beside waterfalls along the accessible boardwalk that runs along the Severn riverbank or take a more energetic hike to the ‘Source of the Severn’.

If you are looking for an extra special experience during your stay, visit the beautiful Montgomery Vineyards which offers a private tour and wine-tasting session. Or take a helicopter flight from the grounds of the farm estate for a bird’s-eye-view of the landscape.
Meanwhile, days out that are within easy driving distance include Llanfair Light Railway for scenic train rides, historic Gregynog Hall and the National Trust's Powis Castle which is renowned for its spectacular gardens.

Getting around

Due to the rural location, a car is essential. The cottage is about 2 miles from Montgomery.
