Cosy Cottages for Couples in Cumbria

Fancy some time away with your beloved, somewhere that you can enjoy each other’s company without any distractions? We’ve put together a selection of cosy cottages for couples in Cumbria that we’re confident will have you wanting to pack your weekend bag right now. With beautiful scenery, including the Lake District National Park, Cumbria is perfect for romantic country walks, leisurely pub lunches and relishing the great outdoors.

Clock Tower at Netherby Hall

Clock Tower, Longtown

Tucked away under the eaves of a former Victorian stable block of a country estate in north Cumbria, Clock Tower is a blissfully, secluded apartment for two. It is set within 36 acres of private grounds belonging to a Grade II*-listed mansion where you can enjoy hand-in-hand strolls in pretty parkland.

With a well-regarded, fine dining pub just 3 miles away (open Wednesday to Saturdays), you have the perfect excuse to treat yourself. Dishes are prepared with fresh produce from the estate’s kitchen garden and, better still, a complimentary transfer is included with every meal booked.

When you wish to explore the local area, there are country walks beside the River Esk and visits to Carlisle and Scottish border towns to whet your appetite.

Rosemary Cottage

Rosemary Cottage, Penrith

Nestled in a small row of cottages in the heart of Penrith, this little cottage is conveniently situated within a few minutes’ walk of pubs, restaurants and shops. Perfect if you like to eat out.

Original wooden ceiling beams are proudly on display, against an elegant and modern décor, for a cosy feel. Meanwhile, the courtyard garden is a relaxing place to sip your morning coffee, while evenings can be spent indoors snuggled up in front of the flame-effect wood burner.

If you should hear the great outdoors calling, lots of walking and cycling routes start from Penrith. Meanwhile, Ullswater, in the Lake District, is only a 15-minute-drive away where you can enjoy a host of water sports and scenic cruises.

Herdwick Cottage

Shepherd's View, Burnside

If you’re dreaming of a hideaway for two with exclusive use of luxurious leisure facilities, look no further. Shepherd’s View, which is part of a small, luxury cottage complex in a quiet corner of the Lake District, will definitely appeal to you.

With an on-site spa area with Jacuzzi, sauna and a heated swimming pool made available to one cottage at a time, you will have the pleasure of experiencing them in total privacy. Massage treatments and a private chef can also be arranged for the ultimate indulgence.

Shepherd’s View has a delightful a patio where you can dine alfresco and a bedroom with a private balcony which is a great spot for stargazing. It is the perfect retreat after exploring the countryside or visiting Windermere, which is just a 15-minute drive away.

Young Lochinvar Apartment

Sir Walter Scott, Longtown

If you like contemporary living with a dose of country charm, this dog-friendly cottage features a double-height lounge with original wooden ceilings beams, plus a modern glass staircase that divides the living area.

There is plenty of space to spread out and upstairs there is a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with a rolltop bath. When you fancy a romantic meal out, book a table at the local fine dining pub (open Wednesdays to Saturdays) and a complimentary transfer will be included for you, so you don’t have to worry about driving.

Set within a Grade II*-listed mansion estate, the cottage is a relaxing place to stay with beautiful parkland outside your door. So, find a bench, sit down and simply admire the scenery together – on a clear day you can see as far as the Scottish hills.

Beatrix Cottage

Beatrix Cottage, Ambleside

Beatrix Cottage is a charming, stone cottage that boasts an enviable setting in a small village in the Lake District. The high-end, boutique-style finish is well suited to an opulent stay, while the location is excellent for relaxing and walking in the countryside.

Enjoy the fresh air with a walk along Elterwater Lake to Stockghyll Force. Or visit the village pub for a refreshing drink. Meanwhile, the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere are within easy driving distance and offer plenty of restaurants, cafes and gift shops.

Back at the cottage, there is little better on sunny days than spending the day in the garden that features stunning views, a hot tub, BBQ, fire pit and luxurious garden furniture. Then, retreat to the snug lounge for a cosy evening in front of the log burner.
