The neighbourhood
The house is situated on a country estate in a glen in eastern Perthshire. Grocery supplies can be picked up at a local village about a 15-minute drive away, while a larger selection of shops and supermarkets (some that deliver to the house) can be found around a 25-minute drive away. There are also some good places to eat locally, the nearest being a hotel which is a 10-minute drive, whilst many more are within a 30-minute journey time.
The area is blessed with beautiful landscapes including the
Cairngorms National Park and is a paradise if you wish to explore the great outdoors to the max. There are lots of walking routes in the area including the famous Cateran Trail, as well as cycling trails and horse-riding routes, with something to suit all levels of ability. Whether you’re looking for something leisurely or more challenging, all promise to be scenic, and guides can be arranged to make your trips go smoothly.
If you fancy fishing, try your luck at catching brown trout in the estate’s loch, or the estate has the fishing rights to a 2-mile stretch of the River Shee that borders the estate where you can land salmon. If golf is more your thing, courses within easy driving distance include Alyth and Braemar, while the highly-regarded Carnoustie, Gleneagles and St Andrews courses are further but still accessible for a day trip.
Winter sports enthusiasts should visit between December and March, the usual ski season at the Glenshee Snowsports Centre, which is a short drive from the house. There are 21 lifts spread over four mountains and three valleys, as well as a ski school, ski hire shops and cafes.
For cultural days out, visit Balmoral Castle, Blair Castle or Glamis Castle, take a tour of the Pitlochry Whisky Distillery, or time your stay for the Highland Games during August and September that are lots of fun to watch.
