The neighbourhood
The cottage is located in Appledore, a pretty fishing village in North Devon with an estuary where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet. The nearest pub is Seagate which is just a short walk away and serves a range of hearty dishes and local tipples, while The Flame Factory, The Royal George and Pig and Olive Westward Ho! are also close by.
For family-friendly days out, The Big Sheep Farm and Theme Park is under 10 minutes away by car and provides a selection of rides and attractions, including the opportunity to meet the farm animals.
Golfers will be pleased to know that The Royal North Devon Golf Club is just 6 minutes away from the cottage, or you can venture further to Saunton Sands Golf Club which is under 30 minutes away and one of the best in the country.
Meanwhile, the small town of Bideford is only a 12-minute drive away and has an array of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. If you want to venture further from here, you can catch a boat to see the seabirds and puffin colony at Lundy Island.
There are plenty of things to see and do for anyone who likes to be active. From Weare Giffard there is access to the Tarka Trail which offers countryside walks, coastal views and traffic-free cycling routes (bikes can be hired locally). You can also access Instow Beach from the Tarka Trail.
If you like to surf or want to learn, the North Devon coast is the perfect place with surfing schools at Westward Ho!, Croyde Bay and Woolacombe.
