Moreton-in-Marsh
Moreton-in-Marsh is a picturesque and vibrant market town situated on the old Roman road called the Fosse Way. Today, it is on the main line railway from London. Steeped in history, you won’t have to go far to begin to step back in time. The high street is lined with traditional Cotswold stone buildings, many dating to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Here, you will discover fantastic shops, including antiques shops, along with galleries and a host of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. A particular highlight is the White Hart Royal Hotel, a former manor house, that King Charles I took refuge in during the Civil War.
Situated at the head of the Evenlode Valley, Moreton-in-Marsh is a wonderful base if you want to enjoy long walks in the countryside. It is also a good place to stay for visiting some of the most popular Cotswolds’ villages and towns including Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water.
However, back in Moreton-in-Marsh, there is a popular outdoor market held on Tuesdays. So, if you are in town on that day be sure to pop along and pick up everything from fresh, local produce to cook at your cottage, to leather goods and books.
