  • About the property

This three-storey, cosy townhouse boasts one of the most desirable addresses in the Old Town of Cowes. The property has been fully renovated to an incredibly high standard by the island-based lifestyle brand 'Jack Thompson & Co.' who have a flair for interior design. As the owners like to entertain, they have made sure that the house is both a welcoming home and a great place for enjoying intimate dinner parties with good friends. It is the perfect abode for up to three couples to enjoy everything Cowes and the island has to offer, including fantastic restaurants. All self-respecting lovers of the finer things in life should also visit Wine Therapy, the ideal place to try and buy wines from boutique vineyards and handcrafted gin to mix up some cocktails back at the house.

  • The space

As you approach this three-storey townhouse at the top of Sun Hill, there is a small, paved seating area by the front door, which is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee.

Inside, décor is understatedly chic with antique furniture, handpicked paintings and elegant soft furnishings.

To one side of the entrance hall is the kitchen, which was designed by the owner and hand made by a local craftsman, including an island with integrated wine cooler for gathering for pre-dinner drinks. While it’s not a huge kitchen, it is definitely perfectly formed for entertaining and socialising. It is also fully equipped with gas and electric ovens complementing a gas hob, a fridge/freezer, a microwave, a coffee machine and that all-important dishwasher. There is also a washing machine and separate tumble dryer.

To the opposite side of the entrance hall, there is the dining room that has a large dining table and chairs, ideal for settling in for leisurely meals that are likely to continue until late! Plus, the sideboard is filled with things to present the perfect dinner party.

Upstairs, on the first floor, is the living room. From the lovely window it is possible to catch a glimpse of the sea in the distance. With a period fireplace (non-operational), comfortable sofa, window seating and chair, as well as Smart TV, it is the perfect spot to retire to when you want nothing more than a cosy night in watching a movie.

Also on the first floor is a double bedroom that has a double-size antique bed, there is a wet room with a walk-in shower, basin, WC and ladder towel rail.

Upstairs again, on the second floor, there are two more bedrooms. One is the master that has a double-size bed and there are partial sea views across the rooftops. The second bedroom has two single beds. All bedrooms have built-in wardrobes and drawer space for your belongings, as well as a hairdryer.

The second-floor bathroom is well designed and features a rolltop bath with a shower over and a TV set into the wall so you can watch your favourite programme while you have a long soak. There is also a basin, WC and a towel rail.

Outside, at the back of the house, there is an enclosed, small, private courtyard that is great for sitting down with a drink.

Local Info

The neighbourhood

You can easily get to the house as a foot passenger on the FastCat catamaran service from Southampton to West Cowes. From the ferry terminal, the house is a short walk through the town to the top of Sun Hill, one of the most sought-after streets in Cowes Old Town.

The High Street is just a few minutes’ walk away (downhill), while Cowes Marina and the beach are within a 10-minute walk. There are lots of shops, pubs and restaurants in the area, including the popular Smoking Lobster restaurant at Cowes Marina that adds a Pan Asian twist to delicious local island produce and seafood.

A long-time favourite haunt of the sailing community, Cowes is well-known for its yachting scene, while windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing and jet skiing can all be enjoyed too.

There is plenty to do on the Isle of Wight and more than half of the island is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so getting out and about is a must. It is a popular destination with walkers and cyclists with 68 miles of coastal footpaths and around 200 miles of cycle tracks, byways and bridleways to explore.

If there’s one iconic landmark that you simply must see, it is the Needles chalk stack at the western tip of the island. You can get a closer look with a ride on the famous chairlift – the views are amazing, so remember to take your camera!

Beautiful beaches are plentiful and those on the south of the island are also rich in fossils and offer an insight into the dinosaurs that once roamed the island.

When it comes to gourmet offerings, do pop into the Mermaid Distillery near to Ryde to sample some locally produced gin. A meal at The Hut in Colwell Bay is recommended too, especially if you like fine seafood combined with fine sea views.

Getting around

While not essential for getting to the property, a car is a great idea for exploring the island. Car ferries operate from the mainland to three points on the island, with the closest from Southampton to East Cowes and there is one off road parking space for the property just along from the house. Alternatively it’s a few minutes walk to a local car park and we can arrange a pass for your stay.

The island has a good local bus service, or if you’re feeling adventurous, bikes and electric bikes can be hired locally.
