There are plenty of shops for retail therapy, but the Old Town is fantastic for independents, boutiques and local producers. Don’t miss The Shambles, an historic street where the upper floors of the old wooden buildings almost touch each other. If you’re visiting in December, York’s Christmas Market is one of the largest in the UK and well worth a visit.
