    Ysgubor Dderw Fawr is set in beautiful Ceredigion on a 13-acre holiday cottage site along with one other property (The Farmhouse that sleeps an additional 12 people, should you require even more space). Housed within a restored 18th-century farm building it has three wings, which are in effect three separate houses, all under one roof. They can be interconnected if you wish and either way, Ysgubor Dderw Fawr offers a high level of flexibility for your group. When it’s time to meet up together, there are numerous options including playing billiards in the games room, meeting in the Great Hall that can be converted into a private cinema for the night, enjoying a barbecue or walking through the meadows within the grounds. There’s even the option to hire a private chef to cater for a special meal during your stay if you wish.

  • The space

    Ysgubor Dderw Fawr offers a wealth of space for up to 37 guests and features including log burners, wood beamed ceilings, large windows, countryside views and warm decor make it a relaxing place to be and perfect for socialising. Stylish design meets cosy cabin here to provide a laid-back vibe where you are free to get comfortable and simply be yourselves.

    Ten bedrooms are spread across the ground and first floors, with some suitable for wheelchair users, while there are three kitchens, dining and lounge areas with seating for everyone, plenty of shower rooms and outdoor space. A private chef can also be arranged to cater for your group, whether a sumptuous dinner, a hog roast or a buffet.

    Guests also have exclusive use of a games room with a billiards table, table tennis, board games and books. Plus, if you’d like to make your get together extra special the Great Hall is available for hosting a special dinner, a private cinema screening or a party night. (It’s ideal for an intimate wedding or a corporate event too.) The suite features a 6ft by 5ft dropdown Wi-Fi-enabled screen, a piano, seating for everyone and floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of the countryside.

    Ysgubor Dderw Fawr

    Sleeps 5 / 2 Bedrooms / 1 Shower Room
    Accessed via steps up to a balcony on the upper floor where a door leads inside to an open-plan living space with a lounge with a Smart TV with Netflix, a dining area and a kitchen.

    From the open-plan living area, there are stairs to the ground floor where there are two bedrooms, each with underfloor heating and a Smart TV. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed, that can be split into two single beds, and access to a Welsh slate patio. The second bedroom has a single bed and custom-built bunk beds to sleep up to three guests. Also on the ground floor is a contemporary family shower room.

    Ty Coed

    Sleeps 16 / 4 Bedrooms / 5 Shower Rooms

    Ty Coed features open-plan living and dining areas including a large kitchen with a commercial-grade Range oven with a six-ring hob. Designed with socialising in mind, the dining area features a long farmhouse table, while the lounge area features a wood-burner and French doors that lead out to the patio where you can admire the views.

    All four of the bedrooms have views, Smart TVs and an en-suite shower room. Bedroom 1, on the ground floor, sleeps three guests in a custom-made super-king-sized bed with a single bunk over and has access to the patio. Bedroom 2, also on the ground floor, sleeps four and has a super-king-size bed with a single bunk over and a separate single bed. Bedrooms 3 and 4 are upstairs. Bedroom 3 sleeps five guests in a super-king-size bed, plus three single beds, whilst Bedroom 4 sleeps four in a super-king-size bed, plus two single beds. The en-suites of Bedrooms 3 and 4 both feature twin showers and sinks. In addition, there is a main shower room on the first floor.

    Ty Derw

    Sleeps 16 / 4 Bedrooms / 5 Shower Rooms

    The contemporary kitchen has lots of space to prep and a commercial-grade Range oven with a six-ring hob, while the open-plan kitchen/diner is the ideal place to gather, eat, drink and be merry. Meanwhile, the large lounge area is the best place in the house for everyone to totally chill out together and features a log burner and a Smart TV, while French doors lead to the patio.

    Upstairs there are three bedroom suites. For one lucky couple, there’s a deluxe master suite, just for two, that features a super-king-size bed, a seating area, a separate dressing room and a private Juliet balcony. The second suite sleeps five guests and has a double bed and three single beds. The third suite sleeps five and has a custom-made super-king-size bed with a single bed over it, plus two single beds. The fourth suite is on the ground floor and sleeps four guests in a super-king-size bed and two singles. All suites have views, seating and a television. Also on the ground floor is another shower room.

    The property also benefits from access to on-site facilities that are shared:

    The owners will welcome you on arrival and show you to your holiday cottage. There is ample parking at the site.

  • Sustainability

    The holiday cottage site features low voltage LED lighting, a computer-controlled biomass central heating and water heating system, and efficient log burners with locally sourced logs or timber from the estate. There is also a biodisc biological sewerage system and a UV filtration system to reduce the use of chemicals, whilst cleaning products are environmentally friendly. Toiletries are supplied from a local social enterprise company and there is an extensive recycling programme too.

    The garden is not completely enclosed which is worth bearing in mind if you are staying with young children or dogs.

    Deposit: Bookings are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking value plus applicable booking fees with the balance payable 60 days before the date of travel.

    Accidental damage deposit: To maintain the highest standards in our properties, guests will need to pay a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 prior to their stay. An advance payment of 3% of the rental price can be made to waive this requirement.

    Book with confidence: If your booking is affected by new Government travel restrictions which were not known at the time of booking, and you're legally unable to travel, we will arrange with the property owner to refund 100% of your holiday cost.

The neighbourhood

The holiday cottage is located in the county of Ceredigion and is a great place from which to explore Mid, North and South Wales. Being at the heart of the majestic Cambrian Mountains it is conveniently located for day trips into Snowdonia National Park or the Brecon Beacons National Park and is perfectly placed for enjoying fresh air, amazing scenery and nature.

Even without leaving the holiday cottage site, you may see woodpeckers, Red Kites, dragonflies, squirrels and hares along the nature trail that winds through unspoilt meadows and woodland. Or travel just 5 miles to the historic Hafod Estate for a stroll along restored walks across beautiful landscapes dotted with bridges and waterfalls. There are many nature reserves in the area and plenty of ways to watch wildlife including dolphin-spotting trips along the Ceredigion Coast or visiting the Red Kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian.

A host of adventure activities to suit all ages can be arranged for you at this property and include bushcraft experiences, canoe tours along the River Teifi, white water rafting and coasteering.

There’s a variety of other attractions nearby too, including the Vale of Rheidol Railway where you can take a scenic train journey and Devil’s Bridge Falls where you can learn about the legend of Devil’s Bridge.

Getting around

A car is strongly advised for getting to this holiday cottage and exploring the local countryside with ease. However, the nearest train station is Aberystwyth which is about 10 miles away.
