    Charming in every way, this cosy cottage is tucked away along a quiet road in the vibrant estuary town of Topsham. If you’re looking for a peaceful place to call ‘home’, yet be within walking distance of exciting independent pubs, award-winning restaurants, boutiques and artisan shops where you can pick up great cheeses and wines to enjoy in the cottage’s cute courtyard garden, this bijoux cottage won’t disappoint. Picturesque hikes and bike rides beside the River Exe begin just a few minutes’ away, while the nearby train station makes it easy to visit Exmouth’s sandy beaches and the cathedral city of Exeter.

  • The space

    This cosy cottage is beautifully styled and has a neutral colour palette that feels very calming.

    On the ground floor, the open-plan living area is light and airy. Enjoy everything from breakfast to dinner around the dining table which is next to the window. In the evenings, sink into the sofa to watch a film on the Smart TV and if it’s little bit chilly, the wood burner will soon make things toasty.

    At the rear of the cottage is the well-equipped kitchen that has everything you could need to whip up dinner made from fresh, local ingredients. You’ll find an electric oven and hob, a fridge, a freezer, a microwave and a good selection of crockery and utensils, plus a dishwasher and a washing machine.

    Off the kitchen is a cute, enclosed courtyard patio that is furnished with a table and chairs, ideal for sipping a morning coffee or savouring lunch alfresco.

    Upstairs, on the first floor, there is a bedroom with a king-size bed, plus the bathroom which has a bath with a shower over, a WC and a sink.

    Another set of stairs leads to the second floor and the second bedroom which also has a king-size bed, but this is zip and link so it can be set up as two singles if you prefer (on request).

    There is a key safe where you can access the key to the property for a self-check-in.

    If you'd like to offset the carbon emissions from your trip, get in touch and we can arrange this for a small fee.

  • Keep in mind

    Due to the age of the building, some guests may find the stairs a little narrow and steep.

    Deposit: Bookings are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking value plus applicable booking fees with the balance payable 60 days before the date of travel.

    Accidental Damage Deposit: To maintain the highest standards in our properties, guests will need to pay a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 prior to their stay. An advance payment as detailed in the booking summary can be made to waive this requirement.

    Book with confidence: If your booking is affected by new Government travel restrictions which were not known at the time of booking, and you're legally unable to travel, we will arrange with the property owner to refund 100% of your holiday cost.

The neighbourhood

Topsham is a small, historic town with a maritime past that has a distinctly cosmopolitan vibe. If you like discovering great places to eat and unique shops for some retail therapy, you can easily while away the hours.

For foodies, there are quaint pubs and award-winning restaurants where you can sample menus that feature local, Devon produce. Meanwhile, the delightful array of shops includes independent boutiques, artisan shops, galleries, antique dealers and superb cheese and wine shops.

Topsham also boasts an outdoor heated swimming pool, usually open from mid-April to September, that’s the best place to cool off in the summer and is equally good for a morning workout.

If you fancy exploring the local area a little more, the Exe Estuary Cycle Trail is ideal and there are plenty of local walks. Try the Goat Walk beside the Exe estuary, which is great for birdwatching and romantic strolls at sunset. Topsham also has a ferry service that takes foot passengers and bikes across the Exe.

Topsham is a good base for exploring southeast Devon including the towns of Exmouth and Dawlish which are fantastic for golden sandy beaches. If you feel like splurging, Exmouth is also home to the 5-star Lympstone Manor where you can book a meal at the Michelin-starred restaurant.

For history and heritage, head to the unspoilt town of Budleigh Salterton which is great place to discover the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The National Trust's Killerton House and Powderham Castle, which is a family home with 600 years of history, are also well worth visiting.

Meanwhile, the cathedral city of Exeter is easily accessible from Topsham train station, not far from the cottage, and offers a wide array of shops and things to do. If you like shopping, you should also check out Darts Farm which has a fantastic food hall and sells luxury goods for the home, alongside outdoor activities including a nature trail.

If it’s more of that stunning natural beauty that you want to find, the cottage is well placed for trips into the South Hams, Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor.

Getting around

It is most convenient to travel to the cottage by car and free on-street parking close to the cottage is possible (subject to the availability of spaces), as well as reasonably priced public car parks.

There is a train station that’s walkable from the cottage that will take you to Exeter or Exmouth and there is also a local bus.
