    Ty Derw is a great place for friends or family to spend time enjoying meals together, chatting by the warmth of the wood-burner, going on gentle country walks or embarking on some of the adrenaline-fuelled adventures that Ceredigion has to offer. There’s a mix of sleeping areas that make it ideal group accommodation, but with a master bedroom just for two, this is a great property for celebrating an important occasion such as a milestone anniversary, where the special couple can have special treatment. Ty Derw is part of a family-owned holiday cottage complex set in 13 acres of private grounds and is housed within an 18th-century farm building that has been restored and divided into several holiday properties. There are pretty walks through woodlands and wildflower meadows straight from your door, while the site also features a picnic and barbecue area, a communal games room and a hot tub, plus a private chef can be hired to cook a special meal for you all.

  • The space

    Enter Ty Derw through the Great Hall, which is the holiday cottage site’s events space, close the door and get cosy in this relaxing space that’s perfect for up to 16 guests.

    The contemporary kitchen has lots of prep space and a commercial-grade Range oven with a six-ring hob to make rustling up a cooked breakfast, picnic hamper, afternoon tea or a hearty dinner a breeze, while the dishwasher will make light work of clearing up. If you don’t feel like cooking, a private chef can be arranged to cater for you in the comfort of your holiday cottage, whether you require a fine dining experience or fancy a comforting family favourite.

    Entertaining is easy in the open-plan kitchen/diner which is the ideal place to gather, eat, drink and be merry. Meanwhile, the large lounge area is the best place in the house for everyone to totally chill out together. With plush sofas to sink into and a lovely log burner, it’s ideal for playing board games or watching a movie on the Smart TV, while French doors lead to the patio area that’s perfect for pre-dinner drinks.

    There are four bedroom suites that are individually designed to offer your group flexible sleeping arrangements. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. For the lucky couple, there’s a deluxe master suite, just for two, that features a super-king-size bed, a seating area, a separate dressing room and a private Juliet balcony. The second suite sleeps five guests and has a double bed – with the lovely touch of a skylight directly above for stargazing, as well as three single beds. The third suite sleeps five and has a custom-made super-king-size bed with a single bed over it, plus two single beds. And, the fourth suite is on the ground floor, is suitable for a wheelchair user and sleeps four guests in a super-king-sized bed and two singles. All suites have views, seating and a television.

    Also on the ground floor is another shower room to ensure that nobody is ever waiting long to get freshened up.

    The property also benefits from access to facilities that are shared with the other properties on the site:

    • Washdown facilities for bikes, wellies and dogs, plus a drying room for wet clothes and boots
    In addition, if you’d like to host a special occasion, an intimate wedding, a corporate event or a group activity here, you can book the Great Hall that features a 6ft by 5ft dropdown WiFi-enabled screen, a piano, seating for 50 people and floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of the countryside.

  • Guest access

    The owners will welcome you on arrival and show you to your holiday cottage. There is ample parking at the site.

  • Sustainability

    The holiday cottage site features low voltage LED lighting, a computer-controlled biomass central heating and water heating system, and efficient log burners with locally sourced logs or timber from the estate. There is also a biodisc biological sewerage system and a UV filtration system to reduce the use of chemicals, whilst cleaning products are environmentally friendly. Toiletries are supplied from a local social enterprise company and there is an extensive recycling programme too.

    The garden is not completely enclosed which is worth bearing in mind if you are staying with young children or dogs.

    Deposit: Bookings are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the booking value plus applicable booking fees with the balance payable 60 days before the date of travel.

    Accidental damage deposit: To maintain the highest standards in our properties, guests will need to pay a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 prior to their stay. An advance payment of 3% of the rental price can be made to waive this requirement.

    Book with confidence: If your booking is affected by new Government travel restrictions which were not known at the time of booking, and you're legally unable to travel, we will arrange with the property owner to refund 100% of your holiday cost.

The neighbourhood

The holiday cottage is located in the county of Ceredigion and is a great place from which to explore Mid, North and South Wales. Being at the heart of the majestic Cambrian Mountains it is conveniently located for day trips into Snowdonia National Park or the Brecon Beacons National Park and is perfectly placed for enjoying fresh air, amazing scenery and nature.

Even without leaving the holiday cottage site, you may see woodpeckers, Red Kites, dragonflies, squirrels and hares along the nature trail that winds through unspoilt meadows and woodland. Or travel just 5 miles to the historic Hafod Estate for a stroll along restored walks across beautiful landscapes dotted with bridges and waterfalls. There are many nature reserves in the area and plenty of ways to watch wildlife including dolphin-spotting trips along the Ceredigion Coast or visiting the Red Kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian.

A host of adventure activities to suit all ages can be arranged for you at this property and include bushcraft experiences, canoe tours along the River Teifi, white water rafting and coasteering.

There’s a variety of other attractions nearby too, including the Vale of Rheidol Railway where you can take a scenic train journey and Devil’s Bridge Falls where you can learn about the legend of Devil’s Bridge.

Getting around

A car is strongly advised for getting to this holiday cottage and exploring the local countryside with ease. However, the nearest train station is Aberystwyth which is about 10 miles away.
