  • About the property

Flowerpot Cottage is one half of a beautiful barn conversion (the other being Bumblebee Cottage) and is perfect for a romantic holiday in rural Cumbria. A large part of its charm is the feeling of being remote – the cottage is at the end of a country lane, yet you’re just a short drive from the local village, the city of Carlisle and Lake District towns. Spend quality time together unwinding in the enchanting cottage garden which is particularly stunning in spring and summer when it bursts into colour with sweet peas and hollyhocks. Admire the beautiful views, dine alfresco, take a dip in your private hot tub, stargaze and simply relax.

  • The space

Enter the cottage through the rustic oak porch and there’s a lovely open-plan living space where you can make yourselves at home. Get cosy on the sofa, light the wood-burning stove and settle down to watch a film on the Smart TV. A romantic breakfast or dinner for two can be prepared in the well-equipped kitchen, plus there’s a dining table for two. There’s also a handy utility room with a washing machine and a downstairs toilet.

Upstairs, you’ll find the spacious bedroom suite which is filled with light coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows and has lovely views. There’s also a super-king-size bed dressed with Egyptian cotton bedding and a second Smart TV, with Google Assistant. There’s also an en-suite walk-in shower room.

The outside space comes in the form of an idyllic, quintessentially English country cottage garden. Lovingly tended to by the cottage’s owners, there’s something to see whatever time of the year you visit from the foxgloves in summer to the pumpkins in the autumn. If you’d like to surprise your partner on arrival with a special bouquet from the garden, this can be arranged with prior notice.

There’s also a private covered hot tub and seating area so you can make the most of being outdoors. On a clear night, do take advantage of the particularly dark skies above the cottage and grab the telescope that’s provided to indulge in a spot of stargazing.

Local Info

The neighbourhood

The cottage is located at the end of a country lane in rural, north Cumbria. It feels remote, however it is only about a 5-minute drive from the centre of the nearest village where there are some shops and places to eat. The Cumbrian Way footpath passes through the village, so it’s a great place to go walking, while the local lanes are perfect for leisurely bike rides. If you want a slice of city life, Carlisle is also just a short drive from the cottage.

The cottage is a great place from which to get out and explore more of the region’s beautiful scenery, as it’s situated between the two World Heritage Sites of the Lake District and Hadrian’s Wall. It’s also good for day trips into the Eden Valley and the Scottish border towns, for everything from fell-walking to visiting historic sites.

Getting around

Due to the rural location, a car is essential. The cottage is a short drive from Carlisle and the M6 motorway.
